This was around the time of Nimrod, about 3,000 - 4,000 years BC-ish.

The Bible does not simply claim that. Read and analyse the whole passage.
They did not cover the earth as had been commanded them. God said to the
Flood remnant 'Prue u revue' which is 'Go 4th and * ' They did not prue and
they did not revue. They sought to urbanise and we would have had twentieth
century technology in no time had they managed it. They were running before
they could walk, neither were they obedient to God and giving Him the glory.

'reach the sky' is more than just a physical reaching.

This is a mere irrelevance. Kindly posit a common ancestor of Indo European
and Finno-Ugric.
