Well depends what you intend by safe ?
Do you wish the content of your email to be private between sender
recipient?
Do you want to preserve your anonymity from the platform providing the
service?
Or both ?
I have used secure mail, which allows anonymous set up without java script
and also allows anonymous log in via Tor Browser
but if you also want privacy of content you would need to use open gnupgp
to encrypt your emails to the sender
