He had been standing on the street corner for almost an hour but the crowds
rushing by scarcely glanced at the one-legged man with the tin cup and a
sign that read, "Help a veteran of the Falklands campaign."
A Royal Navy officer saw him and began to shout at the passers-by. "Have you
no hearts? Have you no gratitude? Have you no shame? Stop and help this man
who fought on our island when the Argentines tried to take it."
People filled the man's cup, and the officer topped it off with a fiver.
The amputee's eyes filled with tears as he expressed his appreciation.
