Oh Lord, Mercury, you have brought so many tears to the eyes of a very
old man, but I thank you for it. There is something about the way
"Continentals" sing, especially in the Low Countries - we don't
understand the words, but we certainly understand the meaning. It goes
straight to the heart! - My father first introduced me to Dutch, and
even dare I say! - German songs - and always when I hear those choirs
I go into very deep thoughts and wonder what might have been, if his
generation, and the generation before him; then our generations, had
not gone to war. I always wonder, upon wonder, at not only the
boy-singers, but in all together, the whole loss to science and to
man's humanity. I can only ever listen to music and weep for our total
loss. Every single death, in whatever manner it was caused, on the
continent of Europe during the "dark ages" killed a possible Beethoven
or other genius... etc... etc...
I wish I had not lived in those hurtful, hurtful times.
