It was recorded in 96, when Mr. Guitar was 72, and it's one I hadn't
heard.
Chet has been one of my life-long idols, since I can remember. He
changed the history of the guitar. He MADE much of the modern history
of the instrument. He was a major force in the motivation that made me
first pick one up and decide to learn to play it. (He was also one of
the most down-to-earth, purely honestly real people ever. On or off
stage, he was never more or less than just Chet.)
One of his classics, "Windy and Warm," was the ONE tune that fired me
up about learning his fingerpicking style. "I can play that," said I
to self, when I was about 13. I battled with it relentlessly for 9
months, not getting it, not understanding, fighting it, "sort of"
getting it, but then not really getting it. And then one day I picked
up my old Goya classic, and I stopped fighting it, and it just
suddenly WORKED. I'll never know why, or how, but on that day my thumb
and my fingers finally understood one another, the Travis pick made
sense, and I heard Windy and Warm coming out of my own guitar, the way
HE played it. The travis style, and Chet's style, have been locked
forever in my brain since that day.
I could go on, but I think I'm drifting off on a tangent...
I note another album that's just appeared. Be assured that it'll be in
the download queue as soon as I finish this. I think you've also
posted a few of his other albums in the past, but they slid by me due
to being on the wrong side of the planet at the time and/or the
limitations of the ol' tin can 'n string connection.
