Highlights from the 3 Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) Ballet suites.
Post 1 Swan Lake. First ballet commissioned in 1875 for the Bolshoi Theatre
in Moscow. He produced a score whose symphonic structure and use of
recurring themes was far in advance of anything previously written for the
Ballet. Unfortunately the first production was a failure and it was ignored
until after Tchaikovskys death, when a new version was staged in 1895 at
the Maryinsky Theatre in Sr. Petersburg. Since then it is not necessary to
go into details on its achievements. This post will be followed by Sleeping
Beauty and the Nutcracker.

Mercury.
