Oh, my heart & lungs! LOL
I have spent some time downloading & listening.
The 1st track, Swanee Medley...well, I lost count of the number of
different tunes in it, but quite a few rude schoolboy variations came
uninvited to my mind. We must have had no respect for noble melodies
in those days. the mischievous way we changed words around. Makes me
come out in hot blushes at the mere recollection.
Lots of Wartime tunes in that collection as well, & some of them, like
"The Long & the Short & the Tall" (in Track 8, somewhere), well I
don't think I've heard since in a 100 years. Some of those tunes we
used to hear almost every day on our valve wireless sets (Wish me luck
as you wave me Goodbye...") Hardy, long lived tunes they were, not
like nowadays when a new Top Ten replaces last week's Top Ten, with
another lot coming the week after. Everybody in the land sang & hummed
the very same tunes year in year out. Didn't have a thousand personal
favourites in a I-pod.
I thought to myself, this would be great to burn to CD for long car
journeys, the wind in my hair & the old honky-tonky piano in the
background. Fact I reckon I'd probably have safely arrived at John
O'Groats & bedded down for the night before the last of the tunes had
been played!
Funny thing, though, I seem to have a bit of a headache now. Wonder
where that came from!
All the best, & thanks.
