Hi Mover,
Your post makes some of the same assumptions that Y Not always used to
make and he was wrong back then. The assumption that I have this
desperate need to help others and be adored is so much psychobabble.
It ignores the fact that I have free will. The way you present it here
is in the form of Y Not TACTIC #3, basically you're insulting me in
the guise of helpful 'humor'.
There are many reasons I help other people, some of them are
altruistic reasons; there are deep seated needs to help because I was
abused as a child; and then there is the question of if I don't help,
who will? Helping others feels good. Helping others builds
friendships. There are more than two reasons.
The flip side of that is being taken for granted disappoints. Lack of
appreciation is demoralizing. Remembering how many people you helped
who might have supported you, but didn't, hurts.
But the most important question you didn't answer: If you think about
it, I'm under no obligation to help anyone, am I?
And that leads us to the point of my post, which evaded you: Lurkers
need to protect their resources, whether it's me who helps out with my
list, security advice or boy advice, or Cosmos, Edik, Insane For Boys
and the other posters who unselfishly post some of the most beautiful
images ever seen. Not following simple ground rules set down by
posters (usually because they weren't paying attention) caused most of
the posters to move to their private groups and may have inadvertantly
contributed to the arrest of others by exposing passwords, etc.
Invoking KidHacker and Y Not is pointless. They don't post here
anymore. The Fort has to survive with the folks that post here. Other
people have the same information to share that I have, but they have
no interest in helping others. I have resources and a desire to help
others, but all I get is a beat down from people who post with Thoth.
I am not interested in ancient rivalries and I'm close to stopping my
helpfulness altogether and going into lurking mode like so many before
me.
