Fair enough, Grant. Okay, I'll give the clinical definition, courtesy
of wikipedia. Feel free to add anything that you might think is
appropriate.
A troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant
or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online
discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of
provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response or of
otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
While not expressly mentioned in the above definition, this obviously
includes usenet newsgroups - which could be loosely categorized as an
online discussion forum.
A simple look at recent text posts will give you an idea of just who
our current trolls are.
