Hi Icicle and Grant,
You both make good points. Icicle's theory about ESPN being hungry for
content may have some truth to it, but the LLWS has been pulling some
good numbers for years; before they expanded.
ESPN for Kids, huh? You know we'd have to include yucky old girls for
fairness. But I can see a lot of Skills Development programming, Youth
Football, Soccer, Baseball, and Basketball Game of the Week, Kid's
Sportscenter, a kids sports themed cartoon series (maybe the Bad News
Bears or something). From a programming perspective there is a lot
that could be done, even a frnachise possibility, could you see the
Pop Warner Football World Championship on ESPN for Kids (The Mattel
Bowl!)? Pop Warner or Midget League Playoffs? Same thing for
basketball, a Prep Basketball All Star Game for example.
Sponsors would line up just like they do on Nick and Cartoon Network
or Saturday morning programming. All we need is like 50 million
dollars and we can start the network. We could raise the money and do
it without ESPN. The KSN! We'll take it to the airwaves and Disney
will have to buy us out.
Think about the publicity we could garner from the tryouts for kid
anchors on the network! There are a lot of possibilities. Does anyone
have $50 million sitting around they'd like to invest?
