Hi Grant,
I was thinking about you yesterday. Thank you for EVERYTHING. I hope
you are well. Thanks also for being one of the few posters who would
get somebody's back when they see an injustice. You know what that's
all about. In past days in The Fort, if somebody attacked me with lies
or what have you there would be a half dozen posters supporting me
within a few hours. Today, it's only those who understand what I've
been trying to do that bothered to come to my defense. Thanks also to
Rickard, Cosmos, and Jimmy for shouting down the troll. It's not that
I couldn't deal with a troll, it's just that when you've been working
as hard as I have to help a group of people, it's nice to know they
appreciate it. For whatever reason, the majority of the lurkers don't
care. They feel as if I owe them something. Oh they're polite, until
you don't acknowledge their e-mail for a few days. Then it's 'Why
didn't you answer my e-mail?' As if they're the only one that ever
writes to me.
You'd be amazed at how many people wrote to me and said, 'It's really
a shame that The Guardians are acting like a troll to you and ruined
the open posting plan. That plan would have worked.' And then they
proceed to ask me for a Group List or passwords or information on some
other related topic. But do they post to shout down The Guardians? Oh,
hell no. No, it's simply a shame that their groups are now inhabited
by Trolls and no more open posting is occurring.
It's a shame that because they didn't follow the poster's guidelines
and rules that Allegro was arrested and is now awaiting trial.
It's a shame that because they couldn't be bothered to read and follow
Jimmy's simple rules that he has stopped posting, joined the secret
groups and will probably never post openly again. And why should he?
He now has access to everything he could imagine and never has to read
or acknowledge another lurker's complaint or whine.
So, if they don't care, why should I care? I don't even download most
of the stuff that's posted. I could care less if there is no open
posting. What WAS important to me was the fact that here were people
just like me who loved boys with all their hearts. I wanted to be a
part of that community, I wanted to help out the newbies who were just
discovering about themselves. And I did. I know I helped many hundreds
of boylovers since I 'came out' here in The Fort years ago. Where were
all those hundreds of fair weather friends this week? Sitting at home
thinking what a shame it was that a single individual was ruining
their groups.
But something else has been happening. The Fort has begun another
revival thanks to old stalwarts like Cosmos and Darkshadows, and even
The Fort Kittens who are back and playing in The Fort. We've got
friendly new faces like Lucario, Insane for Boys (who is somewhat
crazy for real) and Excom who is not so 'new'. So I'm staying here in
The Fort to be a part of the fun. But lurkers should not expect me to
be their one-stop-fix-all-your-problems resource unless they are
willing to stand up for what they believe in. Old friends will still
get an answer, of course, but sometimes I wonder if I have friends
here or not.
Stay Safe Grant and Thanks Again for EVERYTHING you've done for all of
us,
Doc
