Thanks for the info Lookout! Your detailed description will (I hope) be
included in what will eventually be an Appendix of advanced topics
(details on 'how to'). For the 'basic' FAQ section, a high-level
description of function and capabilities, with refrences to additional
resources (either in Appendix, or websites) The basic section of the FAQ
shouldn't be intimidating to the readers! :)
Additional suggestions or corrections to what I offer is requested.
As such, in the basic section, something like this would be appropriate:

What is an anonymous remailer?
An anonymous remailer is a computer that receives messages with
embedded instructions on where to send them next and forwards
them without revealing where they originally came from.
Anonymous remailers may be used to post text messages to Usenet groups,
but are not suitable for large binary attachments. Messages posted
through anonymous remailers will not show any identifiable information in
headers, but will often include a disclaimer sentence at the bottom of
your message and/or user headers that are inserted. Some remailers will
allow you to specify your nic that will show up as 'From' field in Usenet
posts, while most provide their own name ('George Orwell,' 'Nomen
Neisco,' etc.).
Using remailers is not trivial. Additional information and resources can
be found below in the Appendix. But if utilized properly, using remailers
to post text messages provides the greatest level of anonymity for Usenet
posts.

[There are several ways of using remailer functions, each with its pro's
and con's:
* Web interface is the easiest, but lacks in security and functionality;
* Remailer client software is available that automates procedures and
checks for validity. There is a learning curve to install and use
remailer clients, and the popular clients are only for Windows

For Windows, the most popular remailer clients are
'Jack Be Nymble' http://www.panta-rhei.eu.org/downloads/ (aka JBN) and
'Quicksilver' http://www.quicksilvermail.net/ (aka QS).
Of the two, QS currently has the most support, but JBN is still widely
used.
* 'Roll Your Own' where an experienced user constructs and encrypts the
message with all of the required remailer directives manually. This
method provides the most control, but also requires the most knowledge
and expertice.
Of these three alternatives, using a remailer client provides the best
compromise between security, functionality, and expertice. Both the
remailer client and 'roll your own' options entail construction of the
message with necessary encryption and directives, then sending via your
email program to a 'mailto news' (M2N) address that will post the
original message (decrypted and with directives and unwanted headers
stripped) as long as the M2N gateway has access to the requested
newsgroup. Also of note, message size is limited to 29KB including
attachments, so using remailers for posting binaries will probably run
into difficulties.
In all cases, it is strongly recommended to make test post first to
alt.test, misc.test, etc. and observe the results of the test before
posting to your regular newsgroup. Simple syntax errors in the message
can cause embarrassing results!
An additional consideration when using remailers, when you specify a
remailer to use (as the last in a chain) determines whether or not a user
supplied 'From:' header will be honored. This allows you to use your
regular nic to be displayed in your post. For a current list of these
