I think there should be more reasons to post what you did than for
people to download just solely Cosmos posts. Some other people post
that way too and its good to have the information for general knowledge
too. This is because some downloaders might not know what to do with
RAR files.
You are right about opening and seeing whats inside split RAR files but
some people can't do anything with some of the files and some can. For
movies it depends on the codec used and what kind of players and codecs
the downloader has which can play cut up movie parts.
Some programs that unrar things don't let people unrar just one part
and some do. I have both.
Doc discussed zip files. I don't know if he meant to include RAR files
too but they are different kinds of archives and there are more
different programs which create them and unzip them. Sometimes you can
get at the contents of a split zip file if it was split by the zip
maker and sometimes you can't.
There is a different way to make split zip and RAR files than using
those programs to split them when they make their archives. That is
making one big zip or RAR file and then splitting it with a file
splitter like JAS. I think it could be hard to see inside one of those
separate parts.
Your right this shouldn't stop people from sampling a post to see if
they can check it out and see if they want to download all of it. The
poster can help the downloader by posting a CS file too.
I have some questions about your first paragraph.
Why do you call that thread "tortuous"? I have seen you in much longer
and more complicated threads that you didn't say were "tortuous". In
fact, the thread looks relatively simple and tame to me. So far. LOL
Why do you say "Sad" launched it "innocently" with that provocative
question? Do the results reflect that and why didn't he post again in
the thread or someplace else? I wonder about that. What about you?
