Aye, you always wos the smart one in the Latin classes; Mother St
Albert's pet you wos. She was the headmistress you will recall, her
with a face like a biltong. As to that weather business, I don't
understand why we waste billions on a nuclear deterrent when we could
keep invaders out far more effectively if we simply advertised our
weather more aggressively. Still, I never venture abroad without
carrying a rabbit's foot around with me. although it didn't do much
good for the rabbit, come to think of it.
There is, on the other hand, an old Scottish saying that there is no
such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. I believe the
poor sod died of hyperthermia.
Mind you, & mirabile dictu, I was awakened this morning by the sun
blazing through my window curtains. Accompanied for good measure by a
real dawn chorus, with the birds smirking away, singing:-"We done it
again! The sun is rising! And if it weren't for us it'd still be dark!
Now piss off! Out of our tree!"

Aye (again!), & didn't we do well.....4th in the medals table,- just
pipped by Russia at the last minute.

Well, I could give the rhubarb a miss, but I'm with you on the
Bramleys. Cor. wot larks we had though, you & I, when we went
a-scrumping!
