Charges keep pedophile behind bars
The Leader-Post
Published: Friday, March 30, 2007
A convicted pedophile will remain in custody after allegedly having
unsupervised contact with children contrary to the conditions of his
long-term supervision order.

David Wayne Priaulx was arrested in Regina last week. He's accused of
being "a frequent visitor" in a Regina household where children were
present. There are no allegations Priaulx harmed the children in any
way.

The 47-year-old was denied bail after a hearing at Regina Provincial
Court on Thursday. No details from the hearing can be published
because of a court-ordered ban.
Priaulx has several convictions for sex offences against adults and
children of both sexes. Most recently, he was sentenced to nine years
in prison for sexually assaulting a six-year-old boy in Calgary, and a
12-year-old girl inside her home in Champion, Alta., on New Year's
Eve, 1996.

Although the Alberta Crown was considering a dangerous offender
designation -- which would have seen Priaulx imprisoned indefinitely
-- he was instead declared a long-term offender, subjecting him to a
period of 10 years supervision in the community after his release from
prison.

Priaulx moved to Regina after his release from prison in April 2006,
and was living under several conditions including to abstain from
drugs and alcohol, live at a community residential facility, and have
no contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless supervised by an
adult approved by his parole officer.

The breach is alleged to have taken place between April 30, 2006, and
Feb. 21.

After being denied release, Priaulx was remanded to the penitentiary.
His case was adjourned to April 30.
