Stephen's Secure Blog #361
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's after
2018, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 18 in this story, in Fall of year 9 of his special school.

The Innocence Project asked for my help again. They had before, when
a prison had interfered with them, against the law, and one of their
people was threatened with a beating. This was a case of a black man in
Mississippi who was convicted of a brutal murder of a white child, and
was on death row. He passed the lie test, but there was DNA blood
evidence against him, and fingerprints, too. Three of four witnesses
had recanted their testimony. I went to interview him myself, which
caused quite a stir. The DA looked like he was ready to have a fit, in
a news conference, but the warden was happy about it, because the man
was a well respected model prisoner, who he believed was innocent. In
the prisoner conference room, with a lawyer present, I asked Rashid,
"Tell me about the whole day they say it happened." He did, and I had
the lie detector on the table and turned on, and I was reading his
mind, which was well organized and very visual. When he was done, I
said "Tell me about all contacts you had with the victim." He said he
didn't remember ever having any. I asked in order, that he tell me what
he knew about the witnesses against him, and he did. And then I asked
about anybody who might be able to help him.
I said "Now we discuss our ultimate goals. One is stay of execution.
Commutation, in favor of life. Commutation to probation and freedom.
New trial to a not guilty verdict. Total exoneration. Appeals only
review the trials and other appeals, and the evidence which was
presented at the original trial, not new evidence. To ask for a new
trial, we have to show some serious misconduct in the first trial, or
show very convincing new evidence, and even then, it can be denied on a
whim. Do you understand all that so far?" He said "Yes sir, I do." I
said "I know you're innocent of ANY major crime." His tears flowed. I
said "But my word, which might be highly respected by some people,
means nothing to people in power who would oppose any challenge to that
power." He said "I know that very well!" I looked around like I was
conspiring, and whispered, "Er, you might not want to let the guards
hear that." He had to laugh. I said "I said this to a friend, who
appreciated humor in a difficult time; 'Humor is a good friend. Keep
him happy, and you will be comforted even in the worst times'. He still
has his sense of humor, but now he shares it with others." He said "I
like it. Thank you."
I said "So, which of those goals would satisfy you enough that if we
couldn't go any further, you would consider a good victory?" He said "I
think I know what you mean. I prefer death to life in prison as a
guilty man. If there is any way to prove my innocence, it's almost like
I wouldn't accept anything else, but I know I would have to, and be
grateful." I said "You've studied hard, and improved yourself. I would
really dislike all that impressive effort and education to go to waste.
And in my opinion, your wisdom should NOT be lost before its time." He
had some more tears.
I said "While we've been talking, I've been exploring with my mind,
in the present, and in the past. Yes, I can do that, which I would like
to remain a secret." He said "Yes, you have to! You can't have a target
on your back!" I said to the lawyer, "He got that before your people
did. Wisdom is right!" He nodded in agreement. I said "But that
information can be used for leverage. One of the witnesses against you,
actually committed the crime, which you suspected." He nodded, too
overcome to speak. I said "The crime lab misreported the DNA match, to
support the DA. The fingerprint match wasn't as conclusive as they said
it was, which your lawyer could have successfully challenged, if he
hadn't been so discouraged by the DNA match. Our task is to prove the
DNA issue. If I challenge that in public, what do you think will
happen?" He said right away, "They'll lose it." I said "Unfortunately,
yes. There is another issue. Your case isn't the only one like that
with that lab." He saw where I as leading, and said, "You're bringing
the FBI into this." I said "Yes, and this is a secret; I know the
Director personally." The lawyer sat up straighter in surprise. I said
to him, "Don't abuse that." He gulped and nodded. I said "We could use
them for the fingerprint issue, too. I can't promise anything but that
I will try with all the legal means I can, to reverse this injustice.
Will you allow me, and my associates, to work on your behalf?" He said
"Yes, please, sir, I do!" He shed more tears, and the lawyer wasn't
exactly dry eyed himself.
At a meeting with the Director, I explained the problem. He said
"Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We'll give it a high
priority, and if we aren't through in time, we will demand a stay of
execution. Your videos of what happened and how, are going to be VERY
useful to us, even if they can't be used in court. I'll send you
progress reports. Will you be on call to assist?" I said with a smile,
"You know I will, or somebody else. Hawk, maybe. These cases get his
Navajo warrior nature up." He laughed, and said, "I remember the
terrorist and mafia case. We'll be good!" I have him a grin, and we
said our farewells.
I said to Rose, "There is an unusual rescue pending. A family on a
Nagindra colony planet." I pushed her the information. She said
"Twins!" I said "And the parents have half open psionics." She said
"That's a problem. We'll have to take them, too, and that could be
trouble." I said "I have an idea about that. Angrala's school, to
start." She said "Could work. Send the kids only, to Zander's school
for advanced training after a few months." I said "I'll tell Zander we
want Minster on this."
I said to Minster, in our living room on Allguard, "We need you for a
rescue mission. There is a family on a Nagindra colony planet that's
being hunted by the psi police. They can't avoid capture and death,
because all four of them are psionically active, and the two children
are candidates for our schools. We have to rescue the parents, too, and
being who they are, that's going to be difficult." He said "I
understand. They won't trust you, even though they can feel you tell
the truth. I go in first, and make friends with the kids. Show me?" I
projected their images. He shouted, "That's my wife!" I said
"Interesting. Precognition that strong?" He said "Wow!" I said "I guess
that means yes." He giggled around my poke, and said, "But her brother
is in it, too." I said "For us, that's not unusual. We have Hawk.
Often." He giggled some more.
We made plans. Minster ported to where the children were playing, out
of sight, and walked to them. He was broadcasting love and friendship,
and they accepted him. At the same time, in the small inn the parents
were in, I said in the air in their room, "Greetings. Please don't be
alarmed. Well, any more than a friend speaking to you out of the empty
air would cause. I am not a Nagindra. In fact, I'm not even from any of
the star systems the Nagindra know about, which for us, is a great
thing, considering what your government does to people like us who they
can't control." The man said, "And you have a sense of humor.
Definitely not in our government!" I said "Perceptive! Oh, and I'm not
just a voice. You might want to know why I'm contacting you, and in
this way. We look a little different from you, and I didn't want that
to shock you, and cause you to think my wife is ugly. Oh! That might
leave a mark." They laughed. I said "You have a problem. In a few days,
if we don't do something about it, you and your children will be
murdered. All four of you are psionically active, and stand out like
miniature suns in the night, to their senses. We want to prevent that."
He said "We shouldn't, but I believe you." The woman said, "I, too.
What do you offer?" I said "One of our students operates a school for
gifted students on another planet. They are a cousin species to you and
us, both having originated on our planet. We can transport you there."
The man said, "You won't stop our hunters? Kill them?" I said "We are
unable to kill. And if we did that, they would hunt for you all the
more intensely, causing more danger for others like you." He said "I
exactly. In that school, they are like you in psionics. They will love
you. I should tell you something else. There are others of your kind
that we have rescued and are now our students. One of them, Minster, is
with your children now. There is no danger. Your children are better in
psionics than you, and can sense his love and honesty. Will you allow
us to visit you now?" The woman said, "If you can, yes. When will you
arrive?" I said "We can be there instantly, as soon as you agree." The
man said, "Please come." Rose and I ported to their room. Rose said to
me, "I told you they would be surprised." I said "I knew that before
you said it, but your voice is like music to me, so that makes it very
worthwhile to hear it." We kissed. The man said, "Just married?" I
grinned, and said, "Recently, yes, and with a child on the way." She
said "That's going to be some child, of two teleports!" Rose said, "We
wouldn't be disappointed at that." The two women hugged each other.
We all sat, and I said, "There are some important things you should
know. Your people are unique, in that people with reliable psionics are
out in the open and rule your people. Almost everywhere else we know
of, we are in secret, and do NOT rule. We are Guardians of the Light,
who work only for the good of all. How do you feel about that?" He said
"Let's go now." I laughed, and said, "We should understand that to mean
that you approve of our way?" His wife said, "Absolutely!" I said
"That's good, but you know things are rarely that simple." They nodded.
I said "Our planet is not ready to know about offplanet things. The
reasons are complicated, and caused by another cousin people. So, you
can't come home with us. You look a little too different to pass. We
have two other schools. One is on Zichesshich, the capital planet of a
large star association. It is for basic students, and for advanced
students who could eventually learn to teleport, such as your children.
There are many students of other species there. You might be
uncomfortable with that. And it's hot. The other school is on Misnok,
the major planet in a different star empire. Their government is er,
recovering from our assistance." They laughed. Rose said "Their
military is much improved, and is now obeying its civilian leaders, and
the people are becoming less prejudiced against other intelligent
species. We had the help of their Guardians, after we er, convinced
them." Chuckles. He said "Are we to understand that you are some kind
of Super Guardians?" I said "Er, yes."
I said "One of their Guardians is now our student, but she will never
reach the level of what the students will, who start when they are
children. She is operating our school there, but only at the basic
level. You adults do not qualify for our schools, because your current
abilities and potential are already near their maximum, and will not
benefit from further training." Rose said "My parents are like that.
But they have a lot of love to give to all our students as foster
parents to some of them." I looked at Rose, and she nodded. I said
"Minster, who is with your children, and explaining all this to them,
has no parents. There are others of your kind like him." They looked at
each other, and nodded. He said "We understand. The alien school on
Zichesshich is where we should all be." I said "If you find the climate
too uncomfortable there, we can transfer you to Misnok, until your
children are ready for advanced training." He said "We will have to
see. We want the best for our children, no matter what happens to us.
Please tell us about what you do, and will you be doing it to our
government to change it?" I said "We are doing it now, slowly. Almost
all their telepaths are now without all psionics." He said "That was
you, with the walking dead!"
I said "Er, please keep that a secret. We don't want them to look for
people to blame for it, and start a bloody massacre." He said "Now I
understand! Brilliant!" Rose said "We think so. Stephen does everything
that way; brilliantly" I said "Rose positively loves to embarrass me!"
They laughed. I said "When Minster, and the other children of your kind
we have rescued and trained, graduate, they will go back to their
worlds and make the changes themselves that they decide to do. WE, as
outsiders, have no right to decide for your people. Only your own
people have that right. Your children will do what they know will be
right, with the abilities and ethics we are helping them to learn.
Until then, we are doing what we can to keep them from being killed.
Oh, and the other species in your star association have Guardians like
us, and know and approve of what we are doing, and we are teaching
their children, too. You will meet some of them at the school. Still
want to go there?" The woman said, "Now, more than ever!" I said
"Minster is bringing in your children. Our schools are secret from the
public, and we do not accept any interference from the governments that
know of them, and some have tried." Rose laughed, and said, "They tried
to seduce him!" I said "Rose!" She laughed some more, and said, "And
they were almost irresistible to him. What a problem!" They all
laughed. I said "Here is what she looked like." I projected an image of
and I laughed, and said, "You understand." He looked at her, and
nodded.
I said "There is something you will have to get used to. Our kind, I
mean the fully psionic, see without eyes, inside and out, and other
species don't care about nakedness. Yes, neither do we at home. And
all over the place, and with cross compatible species." I explained the
rules. He said "I suppose we have to accept that. I can see why it
would and should be so. We don't want people who can't feel love, to be
so powerful." I said "And that's why we have to maintain contact with
regular people. We have to love them too, even though most of them
would fear and kill us if they could." He nodded, and said, "I
understand." She said "Such wisdom!" I said to Rose, "What is with you
women who love to embarrass people?" They laughed.
The children came in, and we all talked a lot more. I ported all they
wanted to take with them to a room at Zander's school, and I pushed my
memory of what we did, to him. I said "Zander's ready for you now, in a
climate controlled part of his school. I'm not going with you. Rose or
Zander will explain why, when I'm not there to be embarrassed." They
grinned. I said "They will love you, and you will love them. Here is my
love." I held out my arms, and hugged them with all my love, one at a
time. Rose and Minster helped them to sit. All of them had tears. I
ported away. I watched. When they had recovered, but still in awe, Rose
ported with them to the school.
Later, with Rose, Hawk, and Chad, I said "That went very well." Rose
said "It was our relationship that did it." Hawk said "And humor. Can't
ignore that." We hugged and kissed him in agreement.
