Stephen's Secure Blog #123
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's after
2018, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 14 in this story, in the early Winter of year 5 of his
special school.
Stephen's Secure Blog #123 "Start Training Angrala"
START Page
Captain Krack called me while I was working in the museum. I answered
by projection. I said "I'm working in our biggest and most prestigious
museum right now, setting up some of my illustrations in an exhibit.
So, I'm replying this way, to keep my associates here from thinking I
more crazy then usual." He laughed and said, "Is it that bad?" I said
"Actually, yes. I paint things from the past of other people, and their
past lives that I have never seen myself, which are later verified
accurate. And then there was the time my biological father, who had
abandoned me when I was two years old and dying, came to meet me here
for the first time. It didn't go well. Good thing I didn't tell him I
was his grandfather, too." He almost strangled, and then said "I think
I see what you mean. It's always interesting around you." I said "Good.
If events didn't make it so, I would have to create some. I think one
of my major faults is lack of appreciation of boredom." He almost
strangled again, and said, "I don't think that's a fault." I said "I
have an idea I would like to see if we could make work, if you want.
For you, and some of your staff, a visit to this museum after hours, to
see the exhibit which shows the evolution of our people on Earth." He
said "Wow! That's much more than I would dare to ask!" I said with a
grin, "I doubt that." He laughed really well, and then said, "I should
have remembered not to dissemble with you, even in politeness. How
would you arrange it, being a Restricted World?" I said "The director
of the museum knows of the Guardians, and has been offworld with me to
my home and gallery on another planet. She doesn't know about you yet,
but that will change when I ask her. Should I?" He said "Definitely!" I
said "I'll see how much of the museum, perhaps scheduled over different
visits, you can see. And if you don't bring cameras, you should be
severely punished." He laughed and said, "I agree."
I said "Now that we played with that, what did you want to talk
about?" He said "I've decided only Angrala and I will have meetings
with your people." I said "I understand, but I'll miss your First. We
like her a lot. And you will want some of your scientists at the
museum." He said "I see your point. Some restricted meetings, and some
not, then." I said "One of your questions we aren't going to answer
until we meet with your people on your planet." He said "Let me guess.
Where the Van are." I said "Great guess, and for your prize for the
correct answer, you get er, nothing. It won't do you any good to know,
anyway, and we don't want to risk spoiling the show ahead of time. None
of your people, or any other people, will ever meet any of the Van in a
way they would know about. The only interest they would have in you
would likely be your dissection, and you wouldn't be able to object to
that. In fact, if they knew of your existence, they would be desperate
to cut you open, and you couldn't stop them. The ones they didn't
experiment with, would wish they were dead, and would soon be dead, or
in suspended animation until their death." He said "I find that
difficult to believe." I said "They need new bodies to transfer their
minds to, because their manufactured bodies they usually use for that,
because they no longer reproduce the usual way, have too many errors in
them now. They have been trying to make that work with my people for
thousands of years, but while coming very close to succeeding, they
have failed. YOUR people are much more closely related to them. Get the
picture?" He exclaimed, "Oh my GOD!" Then more calmly, "I did it again.
Doubted you. I shouldn't have. I know you would have revealed that at
the right time. I'm sorry." I said "I understand. We don't change
overnight. But with my nights, I wouldn't change them except for
variety." He laughed and said, "I know what you do with that now. You
use humor and comments about sex to ease the impact on my mind from the
important things you say. To the Master Psychologist, I say thank you."
I said "From the exposed manipulator for good, you're welcome."
I said "We should begin training Angrala as soon as possible. Even
then, there is no way we can take her as far as she can go, in the time
we have before you are at your home planet. It's critical that she
become strong enough to resist the combined attack of her own soon to
be very irritated Guardians." He said "Will they attack her?" I said "I
don't know, but caution promotes preparedness, which promotes survival.
Hers is critical to the future of your people." He said "I have to
agree." I said "I can give her the first few lessons remotely, even
while I'm doing other things. After that, they need to be done in
person, and at times in an area which can withstand some destructive
violence." He said "I'll tell her, and that she is to cooperate with
you, but to keep me informed of her whereabouts." I said "Good. Next on
the agenda?" He said, "Not at this time. Like usual, I need to evaluate
what you have said to me today, before I can even think about what to
do next." I said "Fine. Thinking is very useful. Call me again when you
want some more than you expect, to do that with." He laughed, and said,
"I'll do that. Goodbye." I turned off my projection, and finished the
work I was doing. Then I went to see Sharon. She was in and available.
I said "Want to meet some aliens?" She laughed and said, "Don't you
ever start with hello?" I said "Er, hello?" She said "Too late. Yes I
do." I said "How about hosting them here in the museum after hours?"
She said "Wow!" I said "That's what their Captain said. Want to know
more about them?" She grinned and said, "One of your stupid questions?"
I grinned back, and told her about them and the historical connection.
There were a lot of wows. Then I showed her pictures of them. She said
"They could almost be a part of our display." I said "Interesting when
they discover that." She tried to contain her excitement with,
"Probably. I want to do it. Arrangements will be tricky. How much do
they want to see?" I said "As much as they can, with concentration on
the history of humanity, starting from the very beginning as we know
it. Also, I would like to show them my own work here, too, so they can
see I'm not just somebody who gives them more news than they can
handle." She said "I can understand that. What about the language
issue?" I grinned and said, "Want to fix that?" She growled. I laughed.
I said "It's not going to be a walk in the park. More like slogging
through mud and weeds. Could give you a headache, too. I can give you
the language all at once. It will take a few days to settle in, and
then we can practice it to help with pronunciation. Want to start now?"
She said "Will it incapacitate me?" I said "Not likely. If it does, it
can be reversed in a second." She said "Let's do it!"
I said "Being this is your first time, like some of the special
agents and UN employes we do this for, I need to put my hand on your
forehead, and then you relax for a few minutes after I remove it." She
nodded, and I did that, and gave her the language slowly, better than
the usual crystal would have. Then I took my hand away, and waited. She
didn't move for six minutes, and then she rubbed her head. I said
"Hurt?" She nodded, and wished she hadn't. I touched her head again,
and gave her some healing energy, and she felt better. I said in the
other language, "Feel better now?" She said in the same language, "Yes,
thanks." Then she said "Oh!" I said "Right. You took it much better
than most. You must have a gift for languages." She said "Well, I do
now!" We laughed together. Then she said in English, "Good this still
works." I said in Italian, "I sure hope it does." She said in Spanish,
"That is my hope, also." Back in English, I said "You can even read and
write it, too. But I ask that you avoid telling them that, and how fast
you learned it. For now, I don't want most of them to know they can
learn our languages that fast, so they will still use me and my people
as their interpreters when I arrange a meeting for them with the GC and
their Confederation, to avoid an interstellar war." She said "You do
work a lot!" I said "Well, there is work which needs to be done, so I
do it. I couldn't not." She nodded. We said our goodbyes, and I left.
I updated everybody, and then Angrala called me. I ported to her
office, after ensuring she was alone and unmonitored. At her surprise,
I said "Our technology for transportation isn't limited to spaceships.
We would like to restrict that information to Guardian level as much as
possible. Your Captain will figure it out eventually, but that way is
less traumatic." She nodded and said, "Training time? Mindtalk?" I said
"First, something else." I gave her the oath, which she accepted. Then
I told her about Light and Dark, and she chose The Light without
reservations. Then I did the usual contact and detection and training.
She was very surprised by how simple it was. Then I did her inventory,
and explained what I found. She said "Already, you have gone beyond
what my people know." I grinned and said, "This is the barest
elementary part. You have many orders of magnitude to go before we
arrive at your world. The next step is to align your energy centers.
Please lie down on your couch." She did, and I did it, and inventoried
her again, and told her about the change for the better. She said "Wow!
It even increases intelligence!" I said "Not usually so dramatically.
Your poor training, which wasn't your fault, kept that from you. Now
you will see a new technology. One we use to help learn some things." I
explained about the first crystal, and what it does, and she agreed to
it, and put it to her head. Some more wows. She said "So it really IS a
science." I said "Now you can control your own energy centers, so you
won't need alignment from others. There are some things you need to
know about how we will proceed. This is not like we usually teach,
where we spend years on children. But, we have done this way before.
Our primary goal is to get you strong enough so you can defend yourself
against the combined attack of your own Guardians. I don't know if they
will do that, but we can't afford to take any chances." She said "I
agree."
I said "Unfortunately, we can't teach and have you learn that in
isolation. Advancement in psionics comes to the person as a whole, so
we have to cover all of it at the same time. In the first few days, you
will need to engage in resistance to contact training, and exercises
for your object sense. The last you can do on your own. For the former,
you need an attacker, who doesn't need to be physically present to do
that with you. It should not be me. I'm much too powerful, which I
think you felt." She said emphatically, "Yes I did!" I said "Rose isn't
available for that. I'm assigning Grace to help you. I'm giving you
fair warning, she can be more than a little aggressive, but I think
that's what you need right now. She can do it here, or by remote. Here
would be best. The door will not open during that time, and she can be
gone in an instant if needed. One more thing. This takes a LOT of
energy. You will need to eat more, and maybe more often, and you should
get as much sleep as you need. If you don't take care of your body,
your mind won't function well enough to enable you to progress as you
should. Grace is qualified to teach all you should know, but I will
monitor from time to time, while I'm hopping all over the galaxy
preparing my contacts in the GC for what is going to happen, meeting
with your Guardians and their government contacts, and conducting
museum tours for the Captain and his party. We don't have much time to
get all that done, but we will." She said "Wow! You'll be very busy!" I
said "I like that. Ready for Grace?" She said "Ready!" Grace ported in,
and said "Hello. I'm Grace. Nice to meet my next victim." Angrala said
with a laugh, "We'll see about that." Grace said "Good. I like that.
Stephen, do I hear Rose calling you?" I said with a grin, "No, you
don't, but I get the message. Contact when you are ready for more
crystals, and she needs math and physics. And English and the GC
