Stephen's Secure Blog #118
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's after
2018, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 14 in this story, in Winter of year 5 of his special school.

The MedTech said to Percy, "Does you being the least of the four
here, apply to intelligence?" He said, "It applies to everything but
the obvious visible differences." He said "Captain, he has the highest
He said, "Yes. Super geniuses." I said "And we use almost all of our
potential, almost all the time." The Psych said to the Captain, "It is
estimated that we use barely ten percent of our intellectual capacity
most of the day, and only a little more in times of stress." I said
"But there is something more we have, which is the most important to
us. If you are ready, we can give you that experience now." The Captain
nodded, and I gave them all my love. Ichi said "Your science can't
detect and measure it, but can you deny what your experience tells you
exists?" Captain Krack said, "No. Nor can we deny what it means, that
you wish only good for us." Rose said, "Even if we were deceitful in
other things, we couldn't be in showing you our beings like that."
I said to the First, "There is more you should know. All our Senior
Guardians are what you would call Supreme Masters of martial arts. In
fact, we have a sport in which we strike balls with our energy, in a
weightless court." Ichi said "That's true, but he is too modest to tell
you that he is to Supreme Masters, as we are to beginners. That's why
he doesn't let his Ki flow very often. He doesn't like to be
worshiped." I said "Rose, please show them what happened the last time
I did that, on the way to, and in the pub." Percy said "Good. I never
tire of seeing that. Not that I can get tired lying down alone like
this." The Doctor said "I'm sorry. You can get up and dress now." He
did in a hurry, and came back to see Rose's projection. There were a
lot of surprised comments. Rose said "He used no special abilities or
advanced technology. Just skill. His purpose was to show the martial
arts teacher who owed the place, that he could give something to one of
his students that the other teacher couldn't. Yes, he was there to
recruit a student. At the end, you saw his use of Ki, to disarm the
last attacker. If he had desired, he could have killed him with it, and
blown out the wall behind him. But being able, and having the will do
do it, is not the same thing."
Captain Krack said "We understand more of you now. Thank you. How was
that image created, and how was it shown to us?" I said "Using what
words we have between us, would be so inaccurate in description as to
be deceptive. So we won't do that." He laughed and said, "That's the
most polite way I will ever hear, to say it's something we can't
understand, and shouldn't try to." Ichi grinned and said, "Probably."
Captain Krack said to Ichi, "Stephen is the leader, isn't he." Ichi
said "We don't have any leader such as you know it. We each do what
should be done. However, in times of emergency, Stephen usually does
lead, because he has faster reactions, and more to use with them." I
said "If you keep trying to apply your usual conceptions to us, you
will have an increasingly false understanding of us." The Psych said,
"Reluctant as I am, I have to agree with that." Captain Krack said, "I
knew you would." They exchanged smiles.
I said "Now we have to decide what to do with you." Captain Krack
said, "Let us return to my conference room." There, I said, "You do not
have cloaking devices, which would allow you to be undetected by the
science of the Restricted World here, so your ship may not approach too
closely to the third planet. No closer than to the orbit of the fifth
planet, which is the largest in the system. Your shuttles may not
approach any closer, also, because they have space probes and
satellites which can see that finely with optics. The GC has cloaking
ability, and so could actually visit the planet, and keep an
observational station there. We will ask them to remove it soon, due to
their criminal activity. As you know, we follow the rule of not giving
technology to people who don't have it, so we can't help you there. We
will not allow you to use detectable EM transmissions, which we are
still blocking. That will severely limit your ability to explore what
is available to you in this system. You are now in the claimed zone of
influence of something like your Confederation. Would you like to be
put in contact with them, and they have real leaders, too, or would you
like to report back to your own leaders first, and have them decide
what to do about that?"
Captain Krack said "Theoretically, I am empowered to act for the
Confed in situations like this, but practically, if I didn't ask them
first, this would be my last assignment." I said, "We would NOT want to
lose a new friend, or be responsible for any bad things like that." He
said softly, "I know that, and thank you." I said "You are a long way
from home." He said "There is that, too. We could send an unmanned
currier, which would be the fastest way to make contact, but we would
be unable to receive the reply, and maintain your requested security in
this system." I said "And you would be recalled. Your superiors would
never give up control they could grasp for their own." He said "Yes,
but how did you know?" I said "It is evident in how this ship is built,
and all the other factors involved in it, such as your social
structure." He said "It's difficult to conceive of and remember how
intelligent you are. So, what do you advise?" I said "Do you want to
continue to be involved in this very large first contact?" He said "I
do! All my senior staff does, I think." They agreed. I said "There may
be something possible. But please remember, we do not lie, and do not
support others lying. You could return, and tell them you have
discovered a star organization which is similar to your own in size and
ability. You will give them information to support that, which we will
provide. You can say that you have met some people, who are genetically
compatible with your own species, who are known to the GC but not of
them, who have learned your language and offer to act as facilitators
to the meeting of the two organizations. We will inform the GC of that
as well, to be fair. Then we set up a time and place to meet. Because
you have already been involved with us, we strongly ask that you
continue to be active in this situation, because we might not deal with
any others. I include all of you here, in that. Well, we like you."
I said "So, what do you think?" He said "I can't think of anything
which would be better for all concerned." Ichi said, "That's one of
Stephen's talents. We call it the Situation Manager. He's the best, so
he's the one who presented it." He said "I don't doubt that at all."
Ichi, Rose, and Percy, grinned their faces almost in half.
