Stephen's Secure Blog #99
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's after
2018, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 14 in this story, in the Summer, after the end of year 4 of
his special school.
Stephen's Secure Blog #99 "Posintan Museum"

We went back to our ship. I ported the letter to Hoechess' desk. Then
I contacted Ichi and Hasan, and told them what I had in mind, and they
ported to the ship. I ported the ship to off Posintan, and gave Control
said "We know who you are. Welcome back!" I said "Oh." He grinned and
said, "You made quite an impression on your last visit." I said, "Well,
we won't have time for much competition this time. I'm giving a
computer program to the Laser Tag venue, which can track lasers in real
time. And I plan to make a donation to one of your museums." He said
"Will you be testing the program in competition?" I said "If they ask,
yes." He said "I'll be sure to watch." I said "The other people of my
kind who are with me are, Percy and Ichi, who have been adopted into a
clan on Tsuriss, and Hassan, who has no GC citizen status as yet. I was
told that would be granted here, so we can compete against each other
in Laser Tag." He said "Wow! I sure hope so!" Then he turned away from
the screen and announced it to people we couldn't see, who made some
happy noises. Then somebody else came on the screen, and said, "Honored
Sirs, please accept my apology for my Controller abandoning his
terminal. Not that I blame him." He grinned. He said "At the next
terminal you use, you will see the notice, and will be entered on your
disk, that you and Rose are Supreme Honored Guests, which applies to
those you bring, while they are with you. This means you will be
charged no fees for any government service, for life. You may not pay
for any lodging, meals, or transportation, in any establishment. The
government will pay for all of that." All I could say was, "Wow!" Ichi
poked me and said, "I think they like you." The Controller Supervisor
said, "If you will permit, that is an understatement." I said "I don't
said, "I think I'll be the one accepting the landing instructions." And
that's what happened, and we landed in the VIP section.
I said to them, before we left the ship, "I think I miscalculated a
little, in how popular we would be here. I hope that won't be a problem
like it was for me after the raid on my house." Ichi said, "You will
manage it, whatever happens." I grinned and said, "That doesn't help.
I'm calling my agent, Passinchance." He was very happy to get my call,
and said he would be available in two hours. I asked him to meet us at
the museum, and he agreed. We went to the terminal, and I checked in
with the service rep, saying, "No service needed." I moved my wrist to
near the terminal, and it burped, and the screen showed my new status.
The server said "Have you been informed about your new status?" Ichi
said, "He has, and is still in shock. It will be a while before he
recovers." They grinned at each other. We checked into the same hotel
as before, and went to the same MedTech as before, so the others could
get their certificates. She grinned and said, "There is MORE of you?" I
grinned back and said, "As you see. And even more, the next time." She
said "More interesting." She examined the others, and gave them the
papers. Actually, special plastic sheet documents, which couldn't be
modified without destroying them. At least that's what they thought.
She said "Amazing! Are all those of your species so finely developed in
mind and body?" I said "No. Of seven billion, there are about 50 of us,
in various stages of our special training. We have students of other
species as well, including Posintans. That's why I was here last time,
recruiting them." She said "Oh! Good. Thank you." I said "You're
welcome. Please keep that confidential. We invite, and do not accept
applications. Candidate requirements are very strict. Only two
qualified then, with two more who might in a year. We would like our
students to survive." She said "So would I. I understand." We said our
farewells and left, and went to the museum.
At the museum, I asked for the director, and he came out to greet us.
He said "I saw all your matches many times. Magnificent!" I said "Er,
thank you. I had no idea we would be so popular. I don't like such
notoriety. Some might laugh, but I'm actually shy." He laughed. I said
"You didn't have to prove me right." He laughed again. I said "We have
a donation to make, not engage in a laughing contest!" He was suddenly
all serious, and said "What kind of donation?" I said "Is there a place
where I can show with security?" He said "Valuable? Please come with
me." We went to his office. We all sat, and I said, "I'm an artist. I
like to sculpt gem material, natural and manufactured. Sometimes I find
something so unusual, and so precious, nothing really practical can be
made of it, and nobody could, or should, afford to purchase it. I give
those to museums on planets I like and have friends on, such as this
one. The other planets in the GC which have my donations, are
Zichesshich and Tsuriss. I found a gigantic star sapphire rock. One of
the pieces is part of what I would donate. Zichesshich has something
similar, but of star ruby. I think my latest is better, because I've
had more practice. May I show it to you, so you can decide if you want
it?" He said "Please!" I pulled it out of the box and put it on his
desk. He stared at it for a while. A 16cm oval light blue perfect star
sapphire on a highly decorated box is really something which deserves
that. When I thought he might be able to hear me, I said, "It's
slightly too big to put it in a ring." He whispered, "I have to agree
with that understatement." I said "Do you want it?" He said
"Absolutely!" I said "It's a donation. Here's the contract." He didn't
want to take his eyes off the box, but he made himself do that with
effort, and read the contract. He said "Very reasonable. We accept the
terms."
I said "Would you like to see an image of what I made of the same
rock, which I donated to the Tsuriss museum?" He said, "Yes, please." I
showed him the statue, and said how big it is. He couldn't say anything
for a while. Then he said, "Magnificent!" I said "Thank you." He said
"While the box is great, and shows your talent as a designer, and metal
and gem worker, THIS shows you to be a consummate artist." Ichi said
"We agree with that. You should see the rest of his work. Like nothing
else in existence." I said to Ichi, "All art is like nothing else." He
poked me and said, "HE knows what I mean." The director said, "I do.
Where can I see more?" I said "The premiere museum on Zichesshich, the
President's personal collection, and in my home there, where I have a
gallery." He said "When can I visit you?" I said "I am usually
available with a day's notice, except for a few days in the next 60,
and emergencies." He said "Even when you are on another planet, such as
now?" I grinned and said, "Yes, as you partially suspected." He said
"Telepath?" Ichi said "Intelligence beyond measure, and experience." He
nodded. Hassan said, "But I'm not that intelligent. Can you explain?"
The director said, "Anybody who could afford to cut up that stone for
such a sculpture, and do that work in a reasonable amount of time, must
have technology in advance of the GC, and does not personally care
about credit, who would donate these things. Then there is locating and
extracting the stone. That is something I know about, and it's almost
impossible for us to do that." I said to Hassan, "We aren't the only
geniuses in the galaxy, you know. We can't completely hide who we are
from ALL people."
I said to the director, "All my earnings in competition here, are
going towards funding special schools. My problem in that is getting
credits into the GC system in a way which doesn't break any laws, and
doesn't look too suspicious or impossible. Until I came here, I was
selling my art for that. I wasn't anticipating what happened with the
winnings, and my manager bet it all on that Stumak match, without
telling me. I was just here to demonstrate something of ME, to attract
the kind of students who could qualify for our schools, and not to
gamble." He grinned and said, "But you did, and won big. Now that I
know what all that will be used for, I approve completely. What kind of
art do you do?" I said "Almost anything. Paintings, sculpture, mosaics,
in a wide range of materials and dimensions. That is decorative art.
Dance and music are a little different." He said "Those too?" I said
"Our schools teach practically everything, which is why we can accept
only students who can accept all that." He said "Wow!" I said "True."
He almost laughed. He said "As soon as I can get free, I'm going to
have a look at your work." I said "Strange, that's what the Tsuriss
museum director said." He laughed. We stood and bowed, and said our
farewells, and I gave him my love. We went to the main entrance. On the
way there, Percy said "I love the reaction he gets with that." Ichi and
Hassan laughed.
