Stephen's Secure Blog #76
These stories about Stephen began was when he was 10 years old, and
moving to a new part of the country to attend a special school for
gifted students, in the 1950's. This was from a time before computers
would fit on a desk, and when people communicated with friends in other
countries by actual letters sent through the postal service. He wrote
225 of them to a friend. He stopped writing to his penpal, but found he
still wanted to record his life, in case he lost his memory again, and
wrote 30 entries in his first logbook. Then he wrote to an artificial
intelligence called Geenee, in the master computer in his school for
gifted students, which he started attending in 2016. Now it's 2018 and
later, and he's continuing to save his memories in a secure blog.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stephen is 13 in this story, in the Fall, after the start of year 4 of
his special school.
Stephen's Secure Blog #76 "Tsuriss Candidate"
START Page
The Tsuriss candidate said, "Sir, what am I a candidate for?" I said
"You and your former teacher know part of that. To learn to do what I
just showed. But he and three others in this room know there is a
thousand times more I didn't show, that you will want to learn. No, we
have never met before. They felt my Ki. We all know that you didn't.
They knew I didn't need and wouldn't welcome aid in the fight." She
said "Oh!" I said "There is much more than that, if you become the
first student of your species, in what we can teach, if you are able
and willing to learn." She was going to say something, and I said
first, "Now is the time you ask me why." She was so surprised she
couldn't speak. I said "Because it pleases me. I like teaching. I can't
do that without students." She nodded. I said "There are two other
tests, which can't be done here. One more, can. Tell me, have I lied to
you?" She looked more surprised and said, "No you have not. You know I
can sense lies!" I said "You sense the feelings behind them, which lets
you know how the person feels about what she is saying." She said
"Yes!" That got Hoechess' attention. I said "You know what is in my
hand." I lifted my closed fist to her. She said "A ring." I opened my
hand and put the ring back on. I said "All our students have those
abilities." She said "Oh!" I said "To start with." I grinned and put my
hand to my ear in anticipation. She laughed. I said "One thing none of
us lack, is a sense of humor." She said "I'm glad of that."
I stood up, and so did she, and we walked to the door. I turned and
bowed to the room. Four people bowed back. We went out the door. She
said as we were walking, "Those other three, martial experts?" I said
"Yes." Then she was about to say something else, and I said, "Your
belongings will be taken care of, when needed." She started to say
something more, and then decided not to. I said "Right. And I'm not
reading your mind. This isn't my first time." She laughed and said,
"This is difficult getting used to." I said "I hope not. What might
happen next might blow up your mind. And after that, well, we'll see."
She said "Oh!" I covered the ear next to her, and she laughed. I said
"We are going to rent a room at the spaceport hotel. We only need it
for a few minutes for the tests, but I sure don't want to be in a place
which rents by the hour!" She grinned and said, "But when we check out
early?" I said "Opportunities for some humor, if we let it happen. If
what I think will transpire, we might not be leaving the hotel by
ordinary means. Ha! Your ears twitched. You give away your interest.
You will learn more control." She said "Yes, Master." I said "Not yet,
and the proper title is Master Teacher, which I don't care about.
Discipline in words often masks the opposite in feeling. We who feel
what others feel, don't need such pretense." She said "You are wise."
We walked to the edge of SpaceTown and I called a cab to me, and told
it where to take us. We registered for a room, and went up to it,
trying not to laugh at what the staff thought of us. In the room, I
said, "With your permission, I'm going to examine you for health and
abilities. You will not feel it, and it causes no harm." She said
"Please." I did, and she passed. I said "Good. Now here is a possible
mind blowing test. No, you know I'm not lying. It could actually feel
like that." She said "Wow!" I said "We hear that a lot." She laughed. I
said "There is something you should know. We were being watched by one
of my friends and an official of your government, until we entered this
room. I am acting as your therapist here, and we must have privacy. We
do, now. In this next test, I will contact you mentally. If you can
sense it, try to push my mind out of yours. I do not see your thoughts.
Ready?" She said "Yes." I did a silent contact with her, and she
detected it, and pushed, but not hard enough to push anybody out. I
said "VERY good! Much better than usual for a first time." She was not
unhappy at that. I said "This time, to give it your maximum effort,
think of yourself like you are a wild animal, fiercely defending the
lives of your young, and PUSH! If you do, I will be pushing back just a
little bit harder than you, but keep pushing until I cut the contact.
Ready?" She nodded, and I contacted and she pushed very hard for six
minutes. I cut the contact and let her rest. I said with a big grin,
"Passed, exceptionally well." She grinned back. I said "For a reward,
I'm going to contact your mind again, and show what it's actually for.
You don't need to push." I said to her in contact, +This is mindtalk.
It's entirely voluntary, and we only hear in our minds what the other
wants us to hear. Say something this way to me.+ She said +This is
absolutely fascinating!+ I said +I agree. Closing contact.+
I said "Final test now, which requires no effort on your part. Your
energy centers will be aligned. It causes no harm, and gives some
physical and mental benefits. It's a common practice among us, for
people who haven't learned to do it for themselves. If you allow it, I
would like one of my advanced students to perform it, because she will
be working with you in the future." She said "Please." Rose came out of
one of the other rooms. I introduced them. We went into one of the
bedrooms and the candidate stretched out on the bed. Rose moved her
hands over until I said, "Stop! You missed a spot. Review the third
chakra." She said "Right. Thanks." She continued, and at the head, the
candidate's third eye opened wide and stayed that way. Rose said to me,
"Completed. Your information on her species was a great help. Thanks."
She bowed to us and ported away. I said "Student Harditch, you are now
one of us. You saw. Which of us had the brightest lights?" She said in
awe, "You do!" I said "You will learn all about that, and much more
very soon. For now, we need to discuss some serious things. What we do,
is secret. If the general public knew what we could do with our minds
and the technology which that has allowed us to develop, they would try
to destroy us. They could not believe we wouldn't want to rule them
against their wills. Fear can make even the most loving person into a
murderer. Do you understand and accept this?" She said very seriously,
"I do! I accept the very obvious need for secrecy." I said "Good. Next.
You can be of the Light, or of the Dark. Are you familiar with the
concept?" She said "I am. I choose the Light!" I said "Be aware that
the Dark always tempts us. There is no Grey. Being of the Light, if you
harm another unjustly, YOU will be harmed, and you might lose the power
you used. It would return, but you would be a different person then.
You might not notice the change, but each time you turn to the Dark,
you will change more, and it will be easier, and you will eventually
become what most would call evil. After only a few steps down that
path, there is no turning back. Our first duty, being of the Light, is
to stop those people, who have special abilities like we do, when we
find them, because we are the only ones who can. Do you understand
this?" She said "I understand fully, and accept it all."
I smiled and said, "I expected you would. Now we come to the school.
We are in the process of starting some. Our original school is on a
Restricted Planet. Rose and I look like them, and so can live among
them. You can't. If you attended our school, it would be like a prison
to you, because you could not ever go where you might be seen. One of
my students is starting a school on Zichesshich, where I am a citizen
and have another home there. Zander has one offplanet student, and
would welcome you as another. I don't teach beginning students, because
I don't have time. I do a lot more than teach! I do monitor things, and
am available when really needed. Rose is acting as an assistant to
Zander when needed. There is something else you need to know. To get
the full benefit of our kind of school, the student needs to begin in
early childhood. Neither you or Zander have that advantage, and so it
may take a lot longer to learn some of the very advanced things, and
some you might not ever be able to achieve. But then, we all have
different individual talents and skills in various degrees. We all
accept that. Can you?" She said "I think I'm used to that. I will
accept what I must." I said "Our technology is operated directly by the
mind. For instance, this ring. See the tracer light it emits? That can
be a laser which can cut through 4cm of metal. Useful in exploration
and mining. There are no physical controls. Would you want to wear it
while sleeping?" She said "No! I see what you mean. That would take
enormous control, even while awake, and I assume that is the simplest
of your devices." I said "Our spaceship can do many things, including
teleport itself, but it has no physical controls or instruments. Our
very curious guest, who you will meet soon, was disappointed at that."
She said "Wow!"
I said "Some of the regular people who support us and our schools,
know some of what we can do. Until you learn more about that, and what
they should know and shouldn't know about us, I recommend that you
volunteer nothing." She said "Good policy. I agree." I said "Actually,
more good than you might think. Telepaths exist. I knew one. She killed
herself. Sometimes we need to fight Dark Adepts. The less they know
about us and what we can do, the better. It's much safer if the people
they would check out about us, don't know what can be used against us
by them." She said "That's true! I see one other thing from that. We
can't tell those people why we can't tell them, or the Dark Adepts will
know we expect them." I said "Wow! You are the first who ever saw that
without being told." I gave her my love. She looked really surprised. I
said "Yes, I love easily. Everybody, actually. It's a central part of
who I am." She said "You do love. That's why you are doing this." I
nodded.
I said "Soon you will meet our guest. If she asks if I ordered you
not to tell her anything she shouldn't know, you can truthfully say I
haven't. It's important to our mental health not to lie." She grinned
and said, "Yes. You're a sly one, even so." I said with a grin, "I've
been called much worse by some of my loving friends, but in admiration,
not in derision." She said "I believe that!" We laughed. I said "We
could port to the ship, but that would drive the hotel clerks insane.
So, we should do things the mundane way." She laughed and said, "Yes,
let's." We went down to check out. The clerk looked at us strangely. I
said very stiffly, "While my species finds yours almost irresistibly
attractive, we therapists do adhere to proper standards of professional
remember? Don't tell me I didn't know what you were thinking. I can
read your face like the open dirty book it is." Harditch almost
strangled in trying not to laugh, which the clerk noticed, and became
even more embarrassed. He said "Honored Sirs, please accept my
apology." I bowed. We finished checking out, and we walked to the VIP
terminal which was nearby. I said to Harditch, "Are you alright? There
with your sense of humor." I said "Control is very important to us. You
know why. Practice is useful." She laughed and said, "I have a LOT to
learn!" I said with a sigh, "Don't we all." She laughed again.
Harditch said, "What you said about the attraction. Is that true?" I
said "ALL of that was and is true. No lying, remember? That applies to
jokes as well." She said "Oh! Interesting." At the terminal, I
requested takeoff clearance and path. I was given a five minute window
in two hours. I said "The ship is on ground and station control auto.
It will lift when told to. Satisfactory?" He said "It is, Honored Sirs.
Please have a safe journey." I thanked him and we went to the maglev
car, and used that to go to the ship. When we were inside, I made the
airlock close. We went to the lounge. I introduced Harditch to
Hoechess, and said to Hoechess, "I haven't told her who you are, just
that you are our guest and a government official. Well, she had to have
a reason to look in your direction." They laughed. They went into
Hoechess' rooms and closed the door. I said to Rose, "I said I wouldn't
think of her?" She said "I like her a lot. Love her." I said "Me too."
She grinned and said, "I can see that. It should be taken care of." I
said "It would be bad if they saw us doing it, without asking them in
advance, and worse if they didn't see us at all when they come back. It
will just have to throb and wait." She hugged me and said, "I'm sorry."
I said "That is NOT helping." We laughed.
