Hey Ronin,
I saw it today. It was quite an appropriate Father's Day film. The
child pictured looks the spitting image of Brad Pitt, doesn't he.
Terence Malick create his Magnum Opus with this film, I believe. SO
many lingering close ups of beautiful boyish faces. He captured the
spirit and essence of growin up a boy in that time period.
You get to see Jack, later the Sean Penn character. stuggle with many
relevant themes: the need and desire to measure up in the eyes of your
father, the urge to torment your younger brothers, sibling jealousy,
the desire dominate or sexaully possess another, guilt for the times
you did what you wanted but shouldn't have, the love hate relationship
a boy can have with his Dad as he begins to see the world as it is.
Nearly every frame of this film is a work of art, it is a challenge
because of all the symbolism, but the boys are at the heart of this
film and that is why I loved it.
Happy Fathers day to you and all men who love boys.
