The Adventures of Stevie #152
These stories were told to me by friends and other people. Some of them
are true. Some of them are only partly true. Some of them should have
been true. LOL
My first post about Stevie ("Call me Stephen!") was when he was 12 and
in summer camp and was told by another camper. This was from a time
before computers would fit on a desk and when people communicated with
friends in other countries by actual letters sent through the postal
service. When children did this those friends were called "penpals".
Carlos is Stevie's penpal in Argentina and knows English. This is a
fictional contrivance to enable Stevie to tell us his stories because
he isn't here in person. I think.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Stevie's school is for gifted children who don't fit in regular schools.
The stories may not be posted in chronological order.
Stevie is 13 in this story, after the Winter holidays of year 4 of
school.
The Adventures of Stevie #152 "Prepare For Battle"
Dear Carlos,
I made some insulated baseball hats, and sent instructions to Murphy
how to make them, to have enough of them for his team and everybody in
the Huston office. I made a special insulated and armored examination
case, and asked Murphy to get one of those crystals, after I told him
how to handle it safely. I ported the insulated container the crystal
was in to my insulated project room, and put it in the thick walled
steel case, which was insulated, too. I had memorized the inside of it,
so I could see into it through the 4th, which goes right past any
material thing like insulation and steel. I used 4th fingers to unwrap
the crystal, and examined it with my mind. I could sense very clearly
the personality of the adept in it. Nasty, was the best word to
describe him. I poked around in the charms he put in it, and learned a
lot. I could trace the connections more easily, and I could modify the
charms to do just what I wanted. Before I let it out of the box, I was
VERY careful to make sure it was all mine, and no danger to anybody but
the other adept. The result of all that work was I had a back door into
the adept's mind he didn't know about, which I could use when I needed
too. I decided not to tell anybody about it, in case their minds could
be read.
I asked father to get me something which surprised him a lot, which I
liked. He liked what I had in mind for it, when I told him why. I made
some plans, with alternates in case of different situations, and passed
them around. When we get a good location for the adept, we will start
the battle. Chad will be in charge of communications, because he can
contact people the fastest of my team, and I will be in radio contact
with him, because I won't be mentally contacting anybody during the
battle. Rod and Jan will be backup. Tomba and I will be transportation,
because we can port people. I hoped we could have a few hours notice so
Shan could make my medicine.
I had another idea. I asked Murphy for another crystal, but to take
it in a way which I could use to port it back where he got it from. I
ported it to me, and I examined it safely. This time I changed the
charms a little, so it couldn't take energy from it the agent it was
made for, but instead would feed the adept some of my poison energy I
stored in it, when the adept called for it. I did that for 2 more
crystals, and made sure none of them had any trace of me in them. I
didn't want to give the adept any backdoors into MY mind! I told Murphy
to leave those agents alone, and not take their crystals away in the
battle. I didn't expect what I did to really hurt the adept. The most I
could hope for was a distraction, which is important in a game of wits,
where speed of reaction is critical.
We still didn't know enough about what the adept was doing. We could
do something about the Huston office, to interrupt his energy stealing
there, but we didn't know how many other energy absorption centers he
had set up. I thought about sending Murphy around to look for more, but
I thought that would take too long and would probably be a waste of
time, and I wanted him where he was. I really wanted to go to Huston,
to look around, but my extra big aura flaring to life all of a sudden
where he might be, would give him too much warning an adept might be
out to get him. If I stayed in DC, where there are other adept auras
besides mine, my activities would be less noticeable to him.
I had an idea about the 4th and gravity I wanted to explore. I might
be able to use it in the fight. If I could make it work, I wouldn't
have to kill the adept, and he wouldn't be able to kill himself,
either. I told Tomba about it, in my Temple apartment, after a training
session. He was amazed and horrified, but he knew it might be the only
thing I could do, to end it. I hugged him, and said, "I know it's bad,
but I had to find a way which would keep him out of action for a long
time. It can be reversed, if it actually works. I don't know if it
will, because I can't test it, and I don't know if I will have the
opportunity to use it. I might just have to kill him instead, to keep
him from killing me or other people. If he draws too much energy from
his victims, they could die, and we don't know where they all are to
protect them. I have to work very fast to prevent that."
I told Tomba, "While you have more to learn, you are a true Adept
now. I'm VERY proud of you. I don't know how you could have learned all
you have in so short of time, but I'm very happy for you, and selfishly
happy for me too." He said "Thank you, Master Teacher, but I have to
disagree. I don't think I'm an adept now, and I might never be good
enough to be one." I said "Auras don't lie. We can't see our own, but
other people can see the differences between auras. Yours is as bright
and complex as the Abbot's, which is more than any other monk here. He
is an adept. That means you are one, too. We both have a lot more to
learn. We will never stop learning. Every adept knows that. You are an
adept. If you have to, think of us kid adapts as of the junior
variety."
I said to Tomba, "Enough of this work stuff." Then I kissed him and
grabbed his monster. He was surprised at that, because I'm not usually
the one who starts those things. He caught onto why I did it, which was
to lighten the mood, and cooperated enthusiastically. We went all out
for about an hour, trying all sorts of things. When we finally
squirted, it was really great. We were very tired after, and rested,
just hugging. I asked him, "Do you still not believe you could be so
lucky, like you kept saying that first night in my bedroom?" He said
"You heard that? Well, yes. Almost every second of every day." I said
"I think that a lot too, but most often when I'm with people I love a
lot. Like you." He said "I love you more." I said, after I kissed him,
"I don't think there is a way to measure love accurately. That might be
a good thing." We kissed again. I said "I will win. I have so much to
come back to, it's just not possible I could lose." Tomba said "You
better believe it, or I'll get Rod to beat you up for doubting you!" I
laughed so hard, I almost bounced off the bed.
Your friend,
Stephen
