I have thought that now that thread has been vanquished, that it would be
time for new explorers from Earth to rediscover Pern. It would make for an
interesting book.
I know that some early arrivals on Pern sent back a distress beacon and were
rescued but this shouldn't stop the human race from retrying, (it hasn't in
the past; look how many colonies were started and failed after Columbus
discovered the New World. The failures didn't stop colonisation.).
