I'm running late, as usual, and I see that Sebastian has already
posted his smaller re-encoded version of the vid. However, what I was
*going* to say, after I got the last parts and joined the completed
vid yesterday, was that I wouldn't have it any other way.
Yes, it's a huge vid, and a monster to get on a 56k connection, but it
was worth *every minute of it*. You captured it with the best you had,
trying to avoid any losses at all, you took on the monstrous task of
posting the 1121 parts, and on this end every one of them came through
without flaw, they joined perfectly with JAS, and I now have what I
know to be the best copy possible of a truly classic vid.
IMHO, if you'd reduced it to the smaller frame size and higher
compression to make is easier to download, the loss of quality
would've been a shame. I thank you *very much* for doing it just the
way you did.
Granted, as Sebastian is showing (though I haven't tried sampling his
version yet), a highly experienced expert at adjusting and tweaking
and all the mysteries of capturing and encoding can reduce the final
file size substantially, without any apparent losses. Well, you're not
an expert. Neither am I. Most of us aren't. You did the most careful,
loss-free conversion you could, and the result is superb. So the file
is bigger than it could've been. Big deal. That's what big hard drives
are for.
Maybe now that you've caught the interest of an expert or two (because
of Adrian), you can pick up a few pointers that'll make it a lot
easier for *you*, the next time you dig out an unseen treasure.
Don't worry yourself about us. As a
"seemingly-stuck-forever-on-dialup" downloader, I'll take quality over
quantity any day. And I always contend that if I can do it, with a
connection speed that averages 46 kbaud, anyone can. You just have to
*want* to.
