I've used an earlier version of DVDx myself I think, for extracting clips
from commercial DVDs and saving them as VCD MPEG1 format. It was quite good
software to use and gave very nice results. I don't think it let me convert
to DivX at the time, but we're talking circa 2001, so I'm sure that it's
changed a lot since then.

Yeah, as I said earlier it is a bit of hit and miss, depending largely on
the source material i.e. what settings work well for one MPEG2 file may not
give satisfactory results for another. Ultimately, it's you who decides
what you want to post and what you're prepared to put your name to, so I
quite understand.

To have such a classic vid on a DVD at all must be considered very good
fortune. :-)

Yes, in fact I saw you mention once in another discussion (in a different
group) that when you transfer videos from VHS to DVD that you go to the
trouble of using a time-based corrector - if so you get top marks from me
for trying to clear up the analog source before digitising it. Too many
forget about that very important side of things and instead concentrate too
much on codecs and framesizes to get good quality.

And judging by the responses that you get, many people here do sincerely
appreciate all your efforts. I hope that you'll continue to have fun doing
what you've been doing, but if not then sit back and take a break for
while... you've earned it.
