As a *boss* ... Well, this is my home and ME he'd try to be bossing.
I don't tell the wife what to believe; and I don't let her tell me
what to believe.
I'll do everything I can to see that my wife gets to Heaven ... if
there actually is one; which I sorely doubt.
It's not only that I don't believe Christ is alive ... I believe he
died over 2000 years ago; but if I ever DID decide to become a
"Christian" I see WAY too many competing sects; all claiming to have
"the truth" and the others supposedly are all lying about it.
If I ask, "Which should I believe?" they all say ME, ME, ME!!!
Then they ask for money.
Most (not all) seem to be far more interested in getting donations,
tithes or other remuneration from new converts than actually getting
new people into said church ... Which makes me a bit suspicious.
Worse is the "examples" some give (especially the televangelists) of
how this person or that started to tithe ... and immediately got a
good job, great money, new FITB, etc..
What, of course, they NEVER mention is the hundreds who continuously
tithe ... and never see any return except a smiling, well-dressed
preacher in $1000 suits and $200,000 cars.
I'd find it easier to swallow the Roman-Catholic bullshit ... Except
THAT is quite obviously just idiocy in about 1/3 of their rules.
No, if Christ wants to visit, or even stay here a while, then He's
welcome. If He visits over two weeks, then like any guest I'd expect
Him to start paying his own way. Heck, if *I* visit one of HIS
houses, then I put a small amount in the collection-plate for the use
of His (or the preacher's) facilities. It's only fair.
However, once He, or anybody for that matter, starts telling ME what I
must do, must think, must act like, must believe, and must pay-for,
then they're no longer a welcome guest; but far worse than a
freeloader.
And, as far as the wife and Jesus "being a package deal":
A. I've never asked her to leave Jesus. Far the opposite, in fact.
B. If she insists that I have to take Jesus to have her ... Then I'll
have to do without both. I don't believe; and I'm NOT going to be a
hypocrite! Like I said before: I have to live with MYSELF first.
All I can do is love her.
But, the reason I love her, is that she makes me happy.
Being miserable and hating myself to have her, wouldn't make sense.
I'm far better off missing her. Sad, but not unbearably so.
I'll DO almost anything not illegal FOR her.
I won't change myself to keep her.
Heck, if I DID, then I'd likely end up hating her for making me
change.

give to get your heart's desire, is your heart itself."
