Nic and Watcher,
There are people who are watching this "discussion" who WANT you to
argue. They also want you dead. Do you two really need to entertain
them?
Does acting like misbehaving school children make either of you feel
good about yourselves?
Here you are BOTH guilty of telling other people what they shouldn't
express. Do you think there is ANY chance that you will convince anyone
to agree with your own personal views? There isn't, and you know this,
yet you STILL try to do it.
While I'm not going to TELL you what you should do (Ha!), I do have a
little bit of advice to give people who have some difficulties in
choosing what and how to express themselves in these newsgroups.
Questions I ask myself before I post:
Is this situation something in which I should involve myself?
Will what I'm going to post, be likely to make a positive difference,
or is it likely to make matters worse?
Do I have the moral high ground, and will I be keeping it? In other
words, am I using calm facts, and not personal attacks, and am I
expressing real wisdom?
Can I defend what I post, with good information and logic?
Will I be saying some things that will bring other posters into the
argument, and will that make matters worse?
And the most important question; will things be OK if I DON'T post?
Each of us has a moral right to express ourselves, if we don't
unjustifiably abuse people. So, what would justify abuse? If our target
is unjustifiably abusing someone, but only in defending the victim, and
trying to resolve their differences, AFTER being nice and polite
doesn't work. We can express our feelings, and give advice to people,
even if they don't want it, because they are free to ignore us if they
don't like it, but personal abuse is destructive to this society, and
any other society. Those who care about that, don't abuse people.
Telling people they shouldn't have the feelings they have, or
condemning people for what they feel, is ABUSE. Using personal
derogatory names against people, is ABUSE. This isn't the same as
applying unpleasant names to their ACTIONS, to describe why those
actions are bad, which can be useful in motivating people to not do
them.
Do you two really need to fight? You have more in common with each
other, than you have differences, when compared to the rest of the
world. Doesn't it seem to be at least a little reasonable to try to get
along, considering that this fighting isn't going to resolve anything,
and that the rest of the world hates your guts? A little solidarity
couldn't hurt.
Personal advice:
The TP subject is beaten into the ground. Best to let it rest, and keep
the arguments about it away from the eyes of the Trolls, who would LOVE
to use this video to spread their hate, applying it to ALL BLs. I think
that ANY mention of this movie should be ignored. This means NO
complaints or defenses. If someone wants to post the movie in response
to a request, let it happen WITHOUT drawing undue attention to it.
Otherwise, we should just IGNORE the subject.
And please hold back on being critical of other people's tastes.
Respect them as you would have them respect you.
