There are two ways to combine the movie file into a working copy.
1: save the movie parts in a folder and if the poster has supplied a
"batch" file you just click on it and the parts will automatically
combine. Quite often a poster does not supply a batch file. Then you
must go to plan #2
IMPORTANT NOTE
It has been said that is unwise to combine by the "batch" method.
There could be nasty stuff in there. I do not how true that is, but I
never use that method. I only put that option here so you would be
aware of it existance. Normally I do not even download the batch and
crc files.
2: you can use a tool such as JAS which stands for
JustAnotherSplitter. I would supply a web link for safe download, but
presently there ain't one for a free copy. So I have posted one along
with a short film for you to experiment with. It is pretty easy to
use. Unzip it into the folder of your choice. Usually anywhere in the
program files. Feel free to scan it with anti-virus for safety-first.
Now save the movie parts in a file folder and then open JAS. And you
must have the .001 file to do this. Some servers censor groups by
blocking the .001 file. JAS will open on the "combine" window. Browse
untill you get to your folder with the parts. Click on the file named:
bla bla .mpg.001 and click open. Then browse for a folder to place the
combined film. This could be the same folder or a different one. your
choice. Then click "combine" and it will start grinding away. This is
when you will be informed if you have parts missing or corrupt. Some
movies will run if incomplete, others won't. A short film takes nano
seconds to combine, longer if a large film. Depending on your 'puter's
speed it should be quick. (JAS will combine films as large as 20,000
parts. I have mine set to 1000 for speed. Otherwise it will waste time
searching for parts that do not exist.) Close JAS and go watch the
film.
Now for some other points. JAS will combine all types of media. AVI,
Wav, etc. If you want to sample a movie without downloading the whole
thing use jas to combine ten or fifteen parts. Keep in mind this
"sampling" method ONLY works in the mpg fprmat. All the others must
have ALL the parts to get a working copy. There are programs that will
let you work with partial AVI, but I am not getting into that now. Do
a google search for that.
