Your suggestion would *not* be acceptable. If/when Rolex ever dares to
reappear, the *only* acceptable thing he can do is to stay out of this
froup altogether. PERIOD.
It's already "owned." It *has* been "owned" since the day it was
created. Rolex was warned of this when he chose to invade it. He was
warned again numerious times. He, and a few others, chose to ignore
the warnings. You see the results.
There are over 100,000 froups on Usenet. Possibly half of those are
dead, and their owners have long-since abandoned them and moved on.
The *right* approach, when investigating a seemingly dead froup, is to
watch it for any activity and do some test posts, over the period of a
few months. If it "seems" dead enough, then you might consider moving
in and taking over. Still, though, for a while you watch for any
possible reactions from "previous owners." If you see *any at all*,
you graciously drop it, excuse yourselves, and move on to another
you've also been testing as a backup.
In the case of this froup, a warning shot was fired by one of the
*real* owners. It was ignored. A few others were fired, and, instead
of doing the proper thing and leaving, the idiot Rolex decided to take
them on and start a war with them. Guess who won?.....
