Thank you for your intelligent response. It deserves a useful reply.
Not all people who post in "pedo" groups are "pedos". Well YOU are
posting here, right? Please withhold your personal judgment, until you
have more information.

No, he returned to posting, with a different name. He's threatened to
kill himself four times that I know of. He hasn't tried to actually do
it. That is, if we are talking about the same George.

I've been monitoring these newsgroups for a little longer than that. I
was asked to do it by some people who had received some reports of
children posting porn. You weren't the first to do the reporting.

This is what I advised, and in the other group as well. As you see, it
didn't happen. Some people have to learn the hard way. In this regard,
are you any different? :-)

Right. Some weren't, but some were. Unfortunately, what is done, is
already done. If their past suffering can help keep other children
safer, then I think it should. I know it's not the best solution, but
sometimes compromises have to be made, for the greater good.

So it is in popular fiction. Ever watch that Law and Order Special
Victims TV show? Do you think it's actually real?
There is absolutely no evidence at all that, in adults, viewing
pornography of any kind causes people to commit any crimes.
Believe me, we WANT that to be a cause. It would be wonderful to be
able to isolate a cause for this behavior, that we could control, but
in actual fact, that all the research shows, it's actually the opposite
that happens. Men who can satisfy themselves with images, are much less
likely to harm children.
We have a need to demonize people who have parts of themselves we
dislike, to dislike all of the person, and deny they have any good
human qualities. This isn't realistic. I use the term BL here, because
"pedophile" isn't completely accurate for this particular population.
Think about this. Everyone knows that harming a child is bad. VERY bad.
But what does one do when one's sexual feelings and urges make them
want to do that? They fight the curse. They KNOW that what they have
urges to do, is bad. Sometimes they loose the fight to resist their
urges, and harm a child. If they can use images to help distract
themselves from actual children, to help them control their behavior
they really WANT to control, I view this as a good thing, and to be
supported, for the safety of the children. But lets not forget these
poor souls who don't want to harm the children they are attracted to.
They need personal help too. I try to give them that help, to test and
increase their ability to exercise their self control, and to help them
understand themselves. Usenet is the only place where they can even try
to receive the psychological help they need. I do what I can to help
them, with whatever has a realistic chance of success. Every BL I help
to control himself, is worth at least 50 children who aren't going to
be molested. I'm old, and not in the best health. Doing this work is a
reason to live, so I do.
I have a 17 year old BL I mentor, in real life. I collect boy Speedo
pictures for him to use for his ah, nightly activities. These images
are not against the law in most countries. He likes them very much, and
so far, he has not molested anyone. I don't know what would have
happened if he hadn't had the pictures I gave him. but from what he's
told me, I think there would have been some molestations.
Please remember, we can't "put away" people for their feelings and
urges, but only after they commit a crime. Then it's too late for the
victim. And then the victim gets even more damaged by the legal system.
I would like to prevent this as much as possible.

Well, I couldn't resist a little joke here. I hope it didn't upset
anyone. It's so difficult to restrain my sense of humor. Self control?

Sometimes we need to lighten up a little, or in very unprofessional
terms, go absolutely bonkers!
I agree that the posters should leave. I warned them about this when
they started posting here. I've actively supported this group, because
of the relatively ah, inoffensive postings in it. I think it should
continue, for people who don't want to see the hard core stuff. How
about you give us a few days to get the move organized, and the new
group selected? With the various time zones, and sleep and work
schedules of the various posters, it may take a little while to do
this. After all, you haven't used this group in years, and didn't
notice what's been happening in it, for weeks. There doesn't seem to be
much of a need for urgency here.
Maybe we can do this nicely, if you all agree not to bother the new
group, whatever it might be called.
