There are a couple-three possible dynamics at work here. One is as Y-Not
said, it is a common troll tactic. If that is what this is, then it is
really pointless because this group was not a "secret group" before the
outing by the troll. So there is not any real harm there. Anyone who will
visit will either wish to contribute or be bored at it's lack of titillating
content and quietly leave after checking it out. In this regard, I would
consider this to be a no-harm/no-foul situation.
Possibility number two is that you have angered someone and this is their
retaliation. Of course, if this is true it is a cheap shot but some of the
most insignificant and powerless souls in the world gravitate to the usenet.
Because of the relative ease at remaining anonymous they are able to act
without fear of consequence, and pretend to be Dirty Harry -- even if just
for a day. I think this type of person resents authority and organization
and things such as FAQ's. They hate popular or successful people. They view
everyone else's happiness as coming at their expense thus causing them to be
unhappy. They tend to align themselves with dregs and other disaffecteds. I
think this type very much resembles the infamous Y-Not Hater, and quite
possibly may be one-in-the-same.
The third possibility is that it is from the former dwellers. If this is the
case, one would expect a series of tactics usually attributed to that type.
In the event that this was perpetrated by someone for the #2 reason, I
suggest that you should create a "henchman" type of nic so that when you
post a criticism or an opinion au contraire to the norm, it is not so easy
for someone to retaliate against you as you have been attacked this time.
Lord knows if I were to try to accomplish what you are trying to accomplish
using my own nic...well you get the picture I'm sure.
I say no harm no foul. Be proud of what you are trying to accomplish. I
would suggest occasional comments or suggestions from you as to what you
want to go on in here as opposed to a hard and fast cast-in-concrete FAQ.
You can allow peer pressure to dictate what goes on and you can leave the
heavy hammer in your toolbox. It will kinda take the bulls eye off your
back.
