should have on macs, so now up to him

Repost from another group:
I would
suggest that you get a copy of Stuffit Expander (Free), then
MT-Newswatcher (Free) so that you can read and post on usenet natively
on Mac.
If you get that done OK, take a look at alt.binaries.mac.applications
and ask a few questions there, which will be more helpful to you than
asking in this NG (except that you cannot ask there about the specific
post topics found here).

Since you are just getting started, you are facing a bootstrap
situation in which you need certain software just to be able to get
other software that will eventually allow you to do even more. The
very first thing you will need is Stuffit Expander which is free and
will do all of your dearchive tasks except for RAR handling. Stuffit
and Stuffit Expander are the cat's meow on Mac when it comes to this
task. Also take a look at VersionTracker and MacUpdate which you can
use to find still other software not in this list (I primarily used
Google to build this list for you). Later you will want a full version
of Stuffit which you can get one way or another for free or not from
various sources.
