Although I'm jumping on the bus late, I just wanted to thank you for the post. As a father of two beautiful girls it does matter. I have seen the movie girl model. And, while it paints an ugly picture, if you look through the propoganda of the film you'll catch some interesting facts. The time of the movie is when things in former U.S.S.R were at their worst. The money made by many of the girls was more than the family made. It was enough to improve their lives. The models who went abroad (Escpecially to Japan) seemed to be taken advantage of.
2nd. Any where in the world, the modeling business is cut throat. That definitely includes (Maybe even more so) the U.S.A. The thing I have noticed is that many of the modeling agencies existed right in the same area of the models homes. A good example is Vladmodeling.
3rd. The movie girl model shed light on the fact that some of the girls were tempted by legit modeling agencies.
4th. Although I laughed at the time. I remember taking my daughter to a beauty pagaent at the age of 3. As I said my girls are beautiful, and their mother thought they would topple the agents. There were close to 2000 other girls at the show some of them veterans of the trade. Maybe 3 were seriously looked at . As much as we thought of our girls, it was the last only time we did that..
