While investigating his family genealogy, a young historian is intrigued to learn about a hated and mysterious New England fishing-town called Innsmouth. He decides to stop there and discovers a horrifying secret.
Written in November-December 1931, the story was first published in April 1936; Trivia: this was the only fiction of Lovecraft's published during his lifetime that did not appear in a periodical.
