Their first three albums set the wheels in motion for this Gothenburg band and solidified their place in the retro rock scene. This year brings us a new album from Horisont, "Odyssey", which is described by the band as a 'space saga'.
The Swedes consistently deviate from mere retro metal, spanning lush vocal harmonies on "Back on the Streets" to the acoustic intro of "Flying" and synthesizer flavoring "Timmarna." Additionally, they can introduce some heaviness as with "Blind Leder Blind", a riff monster.
They are a strong end to the album with the first being a moving rocker, while the latter, as the title track, it's the other long track, an eight minute epic finale that mixes modern styles with the retro, complements the opener, and brings the album to a satisfying end.
"Odyssey" is a solid record made with all the classic (hard) rock vibe intact to be enjoyed for all audiences. There's some really great melodies all over alongside polished riffs in the true nature of the genre.
The whole recording sounds like a vinyl LP, warm & round, obviously an intentional production approach that works great for Horisont.
For those that are still in love with retro rock / hard, this release is an absolute must-have.
