The reason the newer newsgroups are poorly populated, harkens back to those who appreciate that type of music--predominately Generation Y--who usually don't thi nk of anyone but themselves and aren['t predisposed to to taking the time to rip and post.
That said, I see many of the types of music you seek in a.b.mp3.complete and a.b.mp3.full-albums. And it never hurts to asks within those groups for what you're looking for specifically.
