Hi Patti! (As you can see, I'm also one of the dreaded "top posters"
(and I always have been).
To answer your question, the "amen" was to a reply I made which said
that people should post in the correct genre and format. In this case,
it means MP3s of 1960s music, as is stated by the name of the group.
PAR files actually don't enter into it (except in confusion).
The real issue is, however, archive files. Some people (like you) will
take postings any way they can get them and some people (like me)
think that making people read through NFO files to see what's in a
post, or making them download a whole collection instead of one or
tracks they actually want, is not cool.
"No one is forcing me to download them" and "My newsreader has a kill
filer" do very little to address the issue of people refusing to honor
the intent of the group. Making people dig deeper to see if they want
to download something, or making them constantly apply filters, isn't
the end of the world, but it's just rude and selfish (IMHO).
Since so few people are contributing anything at all, this is in
actuality not that important, but we are talking about principles, and
people highjacking the group to do things their own way, instead of
simply doing what has traditionally been done over the years, and for
no valid reason.
By the way, someone did offer the "reason" that archive files somehow
fool the authorities looking for copyright violations, because the
individual track names and artists don't appear in plain text. Believe
me, if you can open a ZIP or RAR file to see inside, the good folks at
the RIAA can as well.
Anyway, thank you for your calm, measured reply. Too many times,
people forget that this should be a happy, sharing place, and let the
hotheads ruin their day (now THERE's a reason for a kill filter!).
