I certainly wouldn't 'plonk' anyone for making perfect sense and
highlighting what a ridiculous 'place' usenet is.(*)
Genres are largely subjective and serve as a guide only - unfortunately too
many sub-genres have clouded the water (gotta love mixed metaphors!) and
posters are faced with a gazillion different groups to post to.
It kinda comes down to a global free-for-all anyway. The difference is that
no-one seems to care anymore.
To illustrate your point perfectly; the group a.b.s.m.rock, a potentially
massive 'general' group is permanently empty!
I'm actually too tired to present a cogent and corroborating discussion but
just to say you're bang on the nose (mixmet..and lol)
(*) I might, however, plonk you for having a stupid grin on your face! :+)
PS: I'm going to post some Bonzo Dog Doodah Band to
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.comedy.music.british.eccentric.surreal.basket.goat-kitten.heartyharhar.basketofmackerel
shortly.
