Another one of my favorites in the ambient genre.
Perhaps it's the kind of album you have to put on without any expectations; without feeling the need to have something to anticipate -- patterns of notes, tempos, harmonies or chord progressions. And in doing so, it makes me consider that, although you probably can't ascribe a time signature to any one of the three tracks on this album, the harmonic confluence of "random" tones from multiferious sources has a rhythm as well -- based in cycles per second, too fast for us to count.
Sometimes, when you listen to an album -- maybe even a pop album -- there are these moments of sound that may not have been "composed" or intended, but that are really beautiful, fleeting moments. Maybe it's the certain nature of humming sound of electric guitarists bending strings in their lower register on a heavy metal album... or perhaps the warmup & tuning of an orchestra prior to a performance in a concert hall. Alio Die's albums are like that: finding wonderful moments in sound, elongating them (so as to take a "moment" and make it a "while"), and toying with them -- changing the nature or the emphasis, first this way, then that way.
Perhaps to fully appreciate the work here, you have to love pure sound as much as the average person does music. Five Stars. - Seth Premo on February 12, 2013
