Recent upload of Cobham's 3/18 Buffalo show got me looking to see what I had in my collection from him. I'd forgotten about this show that I picked up in a snail mail trade some time ago. Not sure how widely circulated it is, or if it's been on DIME before.
I find this to be a curious combination of players at an interesting time for all of them and for fusion in general. The bloom was off the rose for a lot of the players from the early 70's first wave of fusion, and the Marsalis reactionary movement was about to hit. Cobham was about to begin his Glass Menagerie band with Gil Goldstein, Tim Landers, and Dean Brown. Catherine was going to do one more "fusion-y" release with the wonderful End of August, and then largely turn his attention towards more straight ahead music and projects. Not sure what Dauner was up to,and Wolfgang Schmid had drifted away from Passport. Not sure if this was meant to be a longer lived project, or a one-off for the festivals that year.
In any case, this is a great listen to something that only seems to have existed for a short time. Thanks to the trader who made it available to me and to the original taper.
