Method:
- Record cleaned on Vpi machine.
- Audio sampled at 96/32 float.
- Filter to roll-off frequencies below 20 HZ (only below audible frequencies).
Audio restoration:
- 'Younglove' decrackling scripted method throughout (catches very low level crackle only).
- Manual declick and deglitch - my method is to scan through the audio with ears and eyes, looking and listening for anomalies and then only declick or mask a glitch when I know it's the right thing to do.
- Denoising treatments are sometimes used near fades; centreing the bass info (which lessens the efect of groove 'roar'); or, similarly, centreing sampled noise patterns, gradually fading in NR if it's bad... but always I will do as little NR as possible! I aim to preserve the musical experience whilst trying to clean the audio of irritations. I don't always get it exactly right though!
- All whole sides normalized to 100% NEVER using compression or limiting.
Synopsis:
It's a nice, very clean UK original pressing, and the mastering was done at Capitol from the original equipment so it's as good as you'll find. While it still exhibits several of the characteristics of digital recordings, it still sounds a lot better than the CD version. I did this rip about 5 years ago, and revisited it armed with a better set of declicking techniques. Hope you like it!
