Of course, but you also gain portability when you aren't at home with
your audio system.

A properly encoded MP3 can sound pretty damn good though. While I don't
advocate MP3's as the main listening experience, they certainly are a
great alternative to carrying around my 1000+ collection of albums. To
each his own.
