Anita 1950-52.txt
Anita O'Day:
1950-1952
Description:
1950 and 1951 were problematic years for Anita O'Day. Although her career later saw many further ups and downs, the records she made in 1950 cannot be described as completely successful. They were neither good pop nor the kind of jazz she had become famous for. She was unable to record at all in 1951 for commercial reasons and because of her uphill struggle again heroin and alcoholism. The following year she made a comeback. Whether or not her career would have been over without the help of Norman Granz is open to speculation but, undoubtedly, his determination to give her a new chance helped enormously. It is amazing to note the differences between the music she made for Norman Granz and the barely memorable tracks of the two previous years.
