Notes.txt
The seventh in the Classics label's chronological reissuance of all the early recordings led by Gene Krupa mostly documents his big band sides of June to Sept. 1940. Unfortunately 12 of the 21 numbers have dominant vocals by the rather routine singer Howard Dulany, greatly lowering the value of this CD. The other nine selections (which also include three Irene Daye vocals) are on a much higher level with the highlights including "The Sergeant Was Shy," "Washington And Lee Swing," "Who," a previously unreleased "St. Louis Blues" and "Rhumboogie." This CD concludes with a pair of fine instrumentals from earlier periods that were not released at the time. Recommended primarily to swing completists rather than to more general collectors.
