Original Image is a loosely defined term.

Lets look at a typical pic, 2000 x 3000 pixels, 8 bit color depth, which comes to 18MB as a RAW image.  Higher end
cameras will let you store that image, but most consumer grade cameras are already doing a lossy jpeg compression
on the first write to memory.  The VHQ setting probably reduces file size to 5MB, HQ to 2MB, and LQ to less than
1MB.  What is accepted as the Original Image on usenet is that supplied by a website at the largest size and
highest image quality, though from places like met art that can include both the hi, med, and low res sets.  For a
2 x 3K image, file size can can vary widely from 0.5-5MB.  Any image as a jpeg will be compressed to some degree
with a resultant loss in image quality from the original TIFF, BMP, etc.  It is clear to me that most webmasters do
not understand either photography or image software, or try to correct poorly exposed images with little success.
That is why shopping is to be avoided.  But try and tell that to an "artist."

I find that most of the 5MB images are bloated, in that the file size is 5-6X larger than an otherwise acceptable
recompressed image.  So for my personal use, I will compress loose images and sets that don't matter.  I don't post
anything though that has been altered from the original release by the website.
