You can use WinRAR (http://www.win-rar.com/rarproducts.html) which is
very common. What WinRAR and other archiving programs do is pack
individual files or folders into a single file. (If the file is very
large, WinRAR can split it into smaller parts as the archive is being
created,) Then others need to download just that one file (or all the
parts, if it was split up). WinRAR then extracts the files back in
original form. This makes it easy to post collections.
WinRAR is shareware, meaning it's free to download but you're expected
to buy the program if you want to use it for more than 40 days. It's
not expensive, but there's a completely free alternative called 7-Zip
(http://www.7-zip.org/) which is seeing more use today. 7-Zip creates
archives in its own format as well as several other common types. It
can't create a RAR format archive, but it will extract files from one.
If you're going to be posting large files like archived collections,
another good program to get is QuickPAR (http://www.quickpar.org.uk/).
QuickPAR produces recovery blocks that can be used to repair damaged
or missing parts of a file. It's not unusual for pieces of a large
multi-part post to get lost or corrupted, and the PAR files can be
used to fix the trouble. This avoids time spent in reposting things.

information on how all the pieces work, and I and others here will be
