I think it's to do with windows explorer's default settings.
In folder options, or whatever, it has a checkbox that says
"hide known file extensions" If someone renames a file, they will put
a .jpg on the filename not realising that windoze has already got the
extension in place.It can be used maliciously, for example, my
file "trojan.exe" could be renamed "britney_bj.avi.exe" the unaware
user would see "britney_bj.avi" without the exe, and think, "I'll have a
look at that!"
