Mort's system is perfect but he could try to place it somewhere else.
At least this can be done in Irfanview, select a free area somewhere
in the piccie, then via "menu/insert text into selection" add text,
choose a font plus fontcolor plus size, tick the box "text is
transparent", then save the file under the same name and you're done.
I'll add an example here "test.jpg". Should work just the same!
