Here is 15cm howitzer being towed by horses through the mud after a
heavy downpour. The 15cm gun was normally taken down into two loads,
each drawn by six horses. Although the 15cm howitzer proved a success
against enemy targets, by the time 'Operation Blue' was in full swing
gun crews found the weapon too heavy. By 1943 only a few of these guns
remained in active service and were used mainly in Russia until the
end of the war.
