A grenadier company moves towards the front. The company chief
(Kompanie-Chef), usually an Oberleutnant or Hauptmann, was provided
with a riding horse. On 15 October 1942 Infanterie-Regimenter were
redesignated Grenadier-Regimenter and individual SchOtzen were
redesignated Grenadiere. This was an effort to improve the morale of
infantrymen as in the old Imperial Army grenadier units were
considered elite. Only a small portion of a division's service and
support units are seen in the background.
